I wrote this poem thinking about some of my students (students with cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delay and some of whom are nonverbal). Also, as a mother, I thought about the patience we must have each day taking care of our children. For mothers who have children with disabilities or special needs, it takes a little or a lot more patience. It takes special kind of people to take care of special people. You all have good hearts! Bless you all! Happy mother’s day to all of you!
For My Mom With Love
(from a child with special needs)
Thank you for your patience as you carry me daily in and out of my wheelchair,
Thank you for the patience you have for me during the early morning and late night care,
Thank you for your patience during the multiple weekly hospital trips,
Thank you for your patience during my seizures when there’s quivering on my lips,
Thank you for your patience when I am crying endless nights,
Thanks you for your patience as you put up with me during my fights,
Thank you for your patience each time you help me calm down when the noise is too loud,
Thank you for your patience during my tantrums as you hold me tight, you make me proud,
Thank you for your patience during the times I am unable to communicate my needs and wants to you,
Thank you for your patience as you try daily to figure out my needs and wants, using all types of communication devices (iPads, switches) too,
Sometimes I want to tell you I love you but I have a hard time letting it out,
Please know that you mean so much to me, I have no doubt (s),
I love you mom with all my heart,
I have always loved you right from the start!
Happy Mother’s Day!
